Rep Deborah Ross: Your Voters Demand Medicare for All!

We don't want a return to "normal." Despite spending nearly double what other industrialized countries spend per capita on healthcare, over 87 million of our people are either uninsured or underinsured, meaning they avoid going to the doctor or filling meds because of cost.

  • With 1 million North Carolinians already uninsured, around 257,000 more lost their health insurance and jobs during the first six months of the pandemic, causing NC’s uninsured rate to skyrocket to 20 percent (for those under 65), one of the highest uninsured rates in the nation.
  • Dying of COVID-19 at higher rates, people of color also account for 54 percent of North Carolina’s uninsured while making up only 37 percent of the population. Medicare for All is a racial justice issue!
  • A single-payer, universal health-care system will save more than 68,000 lives and around $450 billion annually, according to a Yale University study. The 2020 Congressional Budget Office report confirmed the enormous cost-savings of a Medicare for All program.
  • Medicare for All has consistent popular support from voters across the political spectrum, including in Wake County. In fact, delegates to the 2021 Wake County Democratic Convention unanimously passed a resolution supporting the Medicare for All Act of 2021 and called on Rep Deborah Ross to sign on to the bill!

We will no longer accept a system that puts profits before people and causes needless suffering and death! The time is now for a single-payer program that expands care universally and equitably with no cost barriers.

We urge Congresswoman Deborah Ross to make good on her promise to champion healthcare as a human right by cosponsoring and working to pass the Medicare for All Act of 2021 (HR 1976).

Sincerely,

The North Carolina Medicare for All Coalition and the undersigned Constituents, Community Leaders, and Organizations
